CARY, N.C. - The North Carolina Courage have placed midfielder Meredith Speck on the Season-Ending Injury list following successful surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) this past Wednesday. Speck, who was injured on a tackle in the Courage home match against Racing Louisville on June 24, becomes the third Courage player placed on the season-ending injury list this season.
Speck is the longest tenured member of the Courage, playing for the club since the relocation from Western New York. A leader both on and off the field, Speck played in 10 league matches, including nine starts, for 633 minutes this season. Her passing accuracy is above 81% and tackle success of 64.7% is a massive reason the Courage lead the NWSL in clean sheets. She also scored a goal from her central midfield role this season.
The Courage roster now has 24 active players, including four on National Team Replacement Contracts, three on the season-ending injury list and six on international duty. The Courage return to action this Saturday when they host the Washington Spirit for UKG NWSL Challenge Cup action at 7:00 p.m. ET at WakeMed Soccer Park.
