Windsor Express News Release
(WINDSOR, ON) In a rematch of the NBL Finals, the Windsor Express (2-1) continued their dominance over the Island Storm (1-3) at the WFCU Centre with a 100-85 victory on Thursday night.
Gary Gibson dropped a game-high 22 points for Windsor, who beat the Storm for the third straight time, including Game 6 and Game 7 of the Finals last season.
Kevin Loiselle came on strong late in the contest, finishing with 17 points and nine rebounds, shooting six for seven from the floor.
The Storm took a 17-16 lead into the second quarter, but faded from there.
Windsor pulled away from there, bringing the score 30-23 halfway through the quarter and held a 43-36 advantage at the break.
That separation stayed into the final frame, with the Express up 72-60, but the Island did not go away, bringing the deficit as close as four before Windsor made their second thrust.
"We are still a work in progress. At the end of the day we got a win out of this." Bill Jones, Head Coach and Director of Basketball Operations stated after the game. "I can see the steps we are taking understanding our offense and defense and it's going to come."
Jones also gave credit to the bench for their play in the second half.
"Our big guys played well tonight, especially off the bench." Jones recalled, "Casey Love (6 points) and Erik Parker (5 points) were big for us. Parker made some key plays for us down the stretch too."
Former Express forward, Nick Evans led the Storm with 19 points.
A busy weekend for the Express continues as they host the first place Mississauga Power (3-0) on Saturday, November 15th at the WFCU Centre.
The Express are expected to add even more depth, getting guard, Ryan Anderson into the lineup for the first time this season, coming off an injury.
Saturday is Kids Day and features Conductor Coal Train's Birthday Party with special guest characters from Disney's "Frozen".
Tip off is 7:30pm.
