NBC World Series Championship Week Begins Today

WICHITA, KS - The inaugural Championship Week of the 2013 NBC World Series, presented by Papa John's, begins this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

The El Dorado (KS) Broncos and San Diego (CA) Force each won four games during the tournament's first week to earn the two at-large bids in the Championship Week field.

The Broncos defeated the Waves 4-0 on Wednesday to claim their place as the only undefeated team in the first week. Tyler Ware was 3 for 5 with two runs scored, while Clayton Taylor was 2 for 4 with two RBI. Eric Schuermann earned the win in relief for El Dorado, allowing one hit with three strikeouts over two and one-third innings.

The Broncos led all teams during the first week in both batting average (.331) and ERA (1.36) and took home $5,000 in compensation prize.

The Force rebounded in a 7-3 win over the Cape Girardeau (MO) Capahas on Thursday to win the second at-large bid. Timothy Williams was 3 for 5 and scored two runs while Tyler Nordgren and K.J. Miramontes each had two RBI. Adrian DeMar pitched five and two-thirds innings to earn the win. San Diego also earned $5,000 in compensation.

The Broncos help open Championship Week at 4:00 p.m. today when they face the Nevada (MO) Griffons. The Force will play on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. against the Clarinda (IA) A's.

El Dorado and San Diego join 14 other teams, including the two-time defending champion Santa Barbara (CA) Foresters, in the double elimination process.
