Laredo Lemurs News Release

Kansas City, KS - The Lemurs erupted for eight runs on seven hits in a decisive seventh inning Thursday night to beat Kansas City 13-7 at Community America Ballpark.

Trailing 5-1 entering the sixth, Laredo (39-32) started its comeback bid with a lead-off single by Stephen Douglas. Douglas advanced to second with a walk of John Alonso. John Allen then drove in Douglas with a single to cut the T-Bones lead to 5-2. Balbino Fuenmayor reached on a fielder's choice and moved Alonso to third. Another fielder's choice by Mike Sheridan made the score 5-3. Kansas City (29-43) added a run in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-3 advantage.

The seventh inning began with a Garrett Rau single followed by an RBI double off the bat of Harrison Kain. After a pitching change, John Alonso walked with one out to put runners at first and second. Kain then stole third and was driven in on another John Allen base hit. Laredo tied the game at 6-6 on a Balbino Fuenmayor double that scored Alonso from second. With runners at second and third, Mike Sheridan was intentionally walked to load the bases. Brian Peterson then broke the tie with a single that scored both Allen and Fuenmayor. The very next batter, Danny Poma, smacked a three-run homer to give the Lemurs an 11-6 lead. It was Poma's first home run of the season.

Laredo added two more runs in the eighth and allowed a run in the ninth for the game's final margin. John Allen had a four-hit night for the Lemurs. Brian Peterson posted three hits with four RBIs. Balbino Fuenmayor hit his first home run since being traded to Laredo. Danny Poma also collected three RBIs. On the mound, reliever Jameson Maj picked up the win. Maj (2-1) worked two innings and allowed one earned run on two base hits. He also struck out one and walked two. Kansas City reliever Sean Toler took the loss. Toler (2-3) pitched one-third of an inning and gave up six runs (all earned) on four hits with two walks.

Laredo earned a split of the four-game series in Kansas City and now heads off to Amarillo for three against the first-place Sox. The Lemurs are a half-game back in the South Division standings. Laredo returns home August 5th to face El Paso.
