Clearwater Threshers News Release

FORT MYERS, FL - Despite a two-hit, four RBI game from Andrick Nava, the Clearwater Threshers dropped the six-game series opener to the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels 9-5 on Tuesday night at Hammond Stadium.

The Threshers (5-11, 40-41) opened the scoring in the first on a Nava RBI groundout, but the Mighty Mussels (4-9, 45-32) responded with two runs in the home half, two more in the second and three more in the third to grab an early 7-3 advantage.

Right-hander Starlyn Castillo made his second start of the season on the mound for Clearwater, allowing seven runs on eight hits while striking out only one in 2.1 innings of work.

Trailing 7-3 in the fifth, and following a walk to Marcus Lee Sang, Nava crushed his second homer of the season out to left to trim the deficit to 7-5. Nava finished 2-for-4 with four RBI in the contest.

The Mighty Mussels added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth and sixth innings off right-handed reliever Konnor Ash to push their lead to 9-5.

While lefty Jared Wetherbee worked an impressive final 2.1 scoreless innings on the mound, allowing only one hit and striking out six, the Threshers offense was held silent the rest of the way.

Clearwater and Fort Myers return to action on Wednesday afternoon in game two of the series at 12:00 p.m. Right-hander Eiberson Castellano (1-2, 2.83 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Threshers, with coverage on the Threshers Broadcasting Network set to begin at 11:50 a.m.
