Bradenton Marauders News Release
BRADENTON, Fla. - The Marauders rode timely hitting and a resilient four-man pitching performance to a 4-1 win over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Tuesday night at LECOM Park.
The win was the eighth in a row for the Marauders (11-6, 40-41), who are now one shy of the franchise record for consecutive wins.
Pirates' number-12 ranked prospect, Bubba Chandler, went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in his Single-A debut as Bradenton's designated hitter.
Maikol Escotto slugged a solo homer to left-center in the second inning to open the scoring for the Marauders. Chandler followed with a line-drive double to left-center in his first at-bat, then proceeded to advance to third base on a Wyatt Hendrie flyout and scored on a Randy Romero sacrifice fly to left field, putting the Marauders in front, 2-0.
The runs would be the only tallies off Jupiter (8-8, 42-38) starter Luis Palacios, who struck out seven and walked none over six innings but took the loss due to insufficient run support.
The Hammerheads' only run came with two outs in the fifth inning on a Carlos Santiago RBI-single off Marauders starter Valentin Linarez. The right-hander dodged several jams in his four and two-thirds innings, stranding eight Jupiter baserunners, including escaping a bases-loaded predicament in the first inning.
Darvin Garcia earned the win in relief for Bradenton, taking over for Linarez after the Santiago single and watching Hendrie throw out Santiago at second base on an attempted steal.
Jupiter proceeded to place a runner on base in every inning of the game but were unable to produce a run, as Garcia, Mitchell Miller, and Yunior Thibo combined for four and one-third innings of scoreless relief for the Marauders, benefitting from inning-ending double plays in the seventh and eighth.
Bradenton's final two runs came in the seventh off Hammerheads reliever Yeuris Jimenez. Chandler grounded a single to left field and advanced to third base on a single by Romero, and both men scored on a line-drive triple to left-center by Jasiah Dixon.
Thibo allowed a two-out infield single in the ninth to Angeudis Santos, who stole second base an advanced on a wild throw by Hendrie due to no coverage of second base by Bradenton's middle infield. But Thibo induced a game-ending lineout to Jase Bowen in right-center field to secure the Marauders' eighth consecutive win.
The series continues Wednesday with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. for Summer Camp Day. RHP Joelvis del Rosario will start for the Marauders, while Jupiter will counter with RHP Juan Reynoso.
