Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
Inohan Paniagua tossed eight scoreless innings and allowed just two baserunners, but the Palm Beach Cardinals were unable to hold on against the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium on Tuesday night.
The 22-year-old from the Dominican Republic struck out eight batters, and logged his 100th strikeout of 2022 in the third inning. The reigning Florida State League Pitcher of the Week and St. Louis Cardinals Minor League Pitcher of the Month allowed just one hit, hit one batter, and walked none in a no-decision. He improved his league-best ERA (1.97), WHIP (0.93) and strikeout (105) total while remaining tied for first in wins (six).
Palm Beach's lone run came in the third, on a Matt Chamberlain sacrifice fly to score Lizandro Espinoza. After Lakeland took the lead in the ninth, Espinoza drew a one-out walk before a double play ended the contest.
The Cardinals are back in action Wednesday night for Game 2 of the series against the Flying Tigers. Tink Hence--the No. 9 overall Cardinals prospect on MLB Pipeline--is slated to start on the mound. It will also be Silver Sluggers Wednesday at the ballpark.
