Naturals Squeeze out 1-0 Win to Take Series over Springfield
August 29, 2021 - Texas League (TL)
Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release
Northwest Arkansas Naturals pitchers held the Springfield Cardinals to just three hits Sunday afternoon, with an RBI double in the sixth from Vinnie Pasquantino the only offense the club needed in a 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon to wrap up the series.
Ronald Bolaños (MLB Pipeline's No. 25 Royals' prospect) continued his MLB rehab assignment and pitched 3.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts in his first five batters, pitching into the fourth inning for the first time with the Naturals.
Holden Capps relieved Bolaños and put together 2.1 scoreless innings of his own and earned the win to improve his record to 1-1.
Garrett Davila was the second arm out of the bullpen for the Naturals and pitched two perfect innings with a strikeout before handing the ball off to Jose Cuas, who loaded the bases in the ninth but kept the Cardinals off the board and earned his first save of the year.
Pasquantino (MLB Pipeline's No. 18 Royals' prospect) and Clay Dungan led the charge at the plate, as each had two hits in the winning effort. Pasquantino's first hit of the game was his RBI double in the 6th that scored Jeison Guzmán (MLB Pipeline's No. 21 Royals' prospect) from first base. Pasquantino also added a single in the eighth inning, his 14th multi-hit game with the Naturals in 37 at the Double-A level.
The effort stretched his hitting streak to seven games and increased his on-base streak to 21 straight, as well as 34 of 37 with Northwest Arkansas. 35 doubles between High-A and Double-A for Pasquantino are the most in all of Minor League Baseball, as are the first baseman's 58 extra-base hits. His 219 combined total bases are tied for third in all of MiLB, just behind Bobby Witt Jr.'s 232 and ahead of MJ Melendez at 218 and Nick Pratto at 216.
The victory improves the Naturals to 13-5 in their season series with Springfield (37-65), who return to Springdale for the final week of the season, September 14 to 19 at Arvest Ballpark.
Northwest Arkansas (53-48) now turns its attention to the Corpus Christi Hooks, as the Double-A affiliate of the Houston Astros come to town for six games to continue the homestand through Sunday, September 5th.
