Frederick Keys News Release
FREDERICK, MD -Down by a run, the Frederick Keys (58-60/22-26) were victimized by a six-run Potomac Nationals (66-51/32-17) ninth, as the visitors posted a 12-6 win on Saturday night at Nymeo Field. Ending with 17 hits, the P-Nats had seven starters finish with multiple hits while all nine scored at least one run.
Potomac sent 10 men to bat in the club's final at-bats of the night. In the frame, the Nationals hit for the cycle, while the first six reached. Raudy Read started the inning with a double and got to third on an Alec Keller single. That sent up Drew Vettleson who cranked a three-run homer off Mike Zouzalik. Three batters later, Bryan Mejia tripled in two more runs and came in after a throwing error by Steve Wilkerson.
Potomac took the lead for good in the seventh, scoring three times. A pair of one-out singles and a wild pitch put two in scoring position for Alec Keller who brought both men home with a double. Later on, Keller came home on a Matthew Page RBI single.
The Keys held the lead through the first six innings on several occasions. After Max Schrock and Aderlin Rodriguez traded two-run homers, the orange and black went on top in the third. A DJ Stewart double play brought home Hart from third, after the latter doubled and moved up on a base hit. Potomac leveled the game on a strikeout/wild pitch which scored Victor Robles from third, but the Keys regained the lead temporarily in the sixth on a two-bagger by Yermin Mercedes which brought in Austin Wynns from first.
Trevor Belicek (2-4) took the loss, giving up three runs on three hits in 1.2 innings. Austen Williams got the win for the P-Nats allowing five runs on 10 hits in six-plus innings.
