Nashville Loses 5-2, Splits Series with Division-Leading Omaha

PAPILLION, Neb - The Nashville Sounds closed out their road trip with a 5-2 loss to the division-leading Omaha Storm Chasers on Tuesday evening at Werner Park.

With the loss, Nashville (66-65) split the series with Omaha and lost the season series between the clubs by an 11-5 margin.

Omaha starting pitcher Sean O'Sullivan (8-2) recorded his best pitching performance of the season for the Storm Chasers. The right-hander tossed seven scoreless frames while striking out eight and walking none for the victory. It was also his sixth quality start in his last seven outings.

Nashville designated hitter Erick Almonte and right fielder Caleb Gindl each had two hits in the loss.

Omaha scored their first run in the first inning as Storm Chasers center fielder Jarrod Dyson hit a leadoff triple to start the contest. The next batter, left fielder David Lough, then hit a deep sacrifice fly to center to plate Dyson.

Sounds starter Sam Narron settled down until Omaha got to him in the fifth inning for three runs to extend the lead to 4-0. Second baseman Kurt Mertins singled, followed by Dyson reaching on a fielding error by Narron. Former Sound and current Storm Chasers right fielder Lorenzo Cain then jacked a three-run homer to left field, his 16th of the season.

The Storm Chasers tacked on their final run in the eighth with an RBI double by third baseman Joaquin Arias.

The Sounds broke the shutout bid with two runs in the ninth off reliever Kevin Pucetas. First baseman Mat Gamel walked and scored on the ensuing play Gindl tripled off the left field wall. Gindl scored on the next play as catcher Mike Rivera grounded out to the shortstop. Left fielder Brandon Boggs then flew out to end the game.

Narron (6-6) was charged with the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits and two walks while fanning two in 7 1/3 innings. Reliever Sean Green finished the game by recording the final two outs, allowing his only inherited runner to score.

The Sounds return home to Music City to open their final homestand of the season tomorrow night, a five-game set against the visiting state-rival Memphis Redbirds (AAA-Cardinals). Nashville right-hander Amaury Rivas (7-12, 4.93) will toe the rubber against Memphis righty Adam Ottavino (6-8, 5.11).
