Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release
The Colorado Springs Sky Sox dropped the series finale to the Salt Lake Bees 23-11 Tuesday night in front of 6,332 fans at Security Service Field.
The Sox took an early 6-2 lead in the third as Willy Taveras and Ryan Rohlinger smacked two-run home runs and Scott Beerer added a two-run double. The game quickly turned ugly as the Bees scored 17 of the next 18 runs to take a 19-7 lead. The scoring explosion was highlighted by a nine-run seventh inning and a seven run fourth. Four Bees players collected four hits on the night including Paul McAnulty who finished 4-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored. Kevin Richardson also enjoyed a productive night finishing 4-for-6 with a team-high five RBI and two runs scored.
Ryan Spilborghs continued his torrid play at the plate finishing 3-for-4 with a run scored while Scott Beerer finished with a team-high four hits and four RBI in the losing effort.
The loss went to starter Joey Williamson (2-2, 8.65) who allowed eight runs on nine hits in 3.1 innings. Bees starter Eric Junge (8-9, 5.12) picked up the win despite allowing seven runs on 13 hits in 5.0 innings.
The 27 hits allowed by the Sox were a season-high while the 23 runs were the second-most runs scored by an opponent in team history. The most runs ever scored against the Sox was 28 by Salt Lake on July 29th, 1994 in a game they lost 28-3.
With the loss, the Sox and Bees are now tied for third place in the Pacific Northern Division at 59-72.
The Sox will welcome the Tacoma Rainiers to Security Service Field Wednesday for a five-game series as Alan Johnson (4-9, 7.18) takes the hill against Jarrett Grube (3-3, 5.63). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM MT.
