Nareski Selected as Head Equipment Manager
July 6, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Flint Firebirds News Release
Flint, Mich. - Flint Firebirds Head Coach John Gruden announced today the hiring of Matt Nareski as Head Equipment Manager.
Nareski joins the Firebirds with an impressive resume. Most recently, Matt spent the last nine seasons as the Head Equipment Manager for the Northeastern University men's hockey team. Prior to Northeastern, Nareski spent four seasons with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (USNTDP) in Ann Arbor, Mich. In that time, he was a member of the staff that helped Team USA earn a Gold Medal at the 2005 Under-18 World Championship in the Czech Republic.
"We're very fortunate to be able to hire Matt," said Gruden. "For the amount of experience that he has after working with the U.S. National Development Program and Northeastern University, he brings a lot of knowledge and understanding to our program on what the job entails at this level," added Gruden.
Before working in Ann Arbor, Nareski served as an equipment manager for Eastern Michigan (EMU), overseeing the fitting, ordering and transport of equipment for EMU's 21 teams, and administrative staff. He also worked for the Miami Dolphins in 1999.
"When Coach Gruden asked me to join his staff, it was a no brainer. I get to work with a top notch staff, elite level hockey players and I get to come back home to Michigan," said Nareski. "I love the excitement around the Flint and Genesee County community for this organization. We're going to be successful while having fun along the way," added Nareski.
Nareski earned a bachelor's degree in Telecommunications and Film from Eastern Michigan in 2000. After residing in Wenham, Massachusetts for the past nine years, Matt and his family plan on moving back to Genesee County in July.
