August 8, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release

Down 4-2 in the eighth inning, Jackals' shortstop Matt Nandin delivered a game-tying, two-run single.

Tied at four in the 15th inning, Nandin played hero once again, coming through with another RBI single to send New Jersey to a 5-4 victory.

Four hours and twenty-six minutes prior, Kyle Greenwalt got things started for New Jersey on a sunny, Wednesday morning in Little Falls. Fresh off an 11-strikeout performance on Friday, the Jackals' righty allowed three runs off six hits. Greenwalt walked three and struck out two through five-and-one-third innings. He earns the no-decision.

New Jersey's bullpen came up huge from there on in. Zach Woods, Jimmer Kennedy, Jake Wiley, Jeff Gogal, and Keith Cantwell combined for nine-and-two-thirds innings of one-run ball.

The Jackals bats came alive in the eighth inning for yet another late-inning rally. Francisco Caraballo hit an RBI double early in the frame, and the Jackals would proceed to load the bases for shortstop Matt Nandin. Nandin promptly drilled the game-tying hit to left field, evening the score at four runs a piece.

Jeff Lanning had a sac fly in the fifth inning to get New Jersey on the board in the fifth inning.

In the rubber match of the three-game set, Walker McKinven played with fire but worked around five Jackals walks. After only making it through an inning-and-a-third last time out against New Jersey, the Worcester starter allowed just one run to the hometown Jackals through six innings. McKinven also earns a no-decision.

In relief, Sean Keeler went six innings - matching starter Walker McKinven's outing - while holding the Jackals to just two hits. He escaped a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the 14th in his final inning of work.

Mike Mullen came on in relief of Keeler in the 15th and allowed a leadoff hit by Jeff Lanning. After a sacrifice bunt by Carlos Guzman, Nandin's walk-off single issued Mullen the loss. He drops to 2-1 this season.

Worcester got the scoring started in the fifth inning. Matt Jacobs tripled and was then brought home via a Tony Patane single. Alex Nunez would tack on go-ahead runs in the sixth inning with an RBI double. Mike Samela added another run in the eighth with an RBI double.

With the win, the Jackals are now 46-31, three games back of the first-place Quebec Capitales. The Tornadoes move to 22-55.

The second-place Jackals begin a pivotal four-game set with third-place Rockland tomorrow. They will play three in Pomona, NY before coming back home to Little Falls for the finale. Southpaw Craig Clark (5-6, 6.16) gets the call for the Jackals in game one.
