April 14, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release
READING, PA - The Royals and Nailers are about as even as it gets in the ECHL. Each team had won on each others ice, had scored 40 goals in the series and won six games. And each team picked right up were they left off in the regular season Friday night in Reading for game 1.
In the first period the Royals did what they do best and scored on the power play to take a 1-0 lead. Larry Courville tallied his first of the post season at 13:02.
In the second the Nailers came alive with Bo Chessman tying the game at 1:41. Reading would recapture the lead at 5:25 on a goal by Warner. Sean Collins gave the Nailers life once again with just 51 seconds left in the second period beating Fujifuki to even the score.
In overtime the Nailers wasted no time in making sure that they would hold home ice advantage when Kurtis McLean made the perfect pass up ice to a streaking Sean Collins who proceeded to beat Fujifuki through the five hole and give the Nailers a 3-2 victory and a 1-0 lead in the best of five series.
The series now shifts back to Wheeling on Sunday for a 6:35 pm face off. The Nailers will host their first playoff pre game party at 5:30 pm on the new patio at WesBanco Arena. For more information or to order tickets call 304-234-GOAL or online at www.wheelingnailers.com.
