April 14, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release
SAN DIEGO - The National Hockey League's Minnesota Wild have assigned defenseman Chris Heid to the Fresno Falcons. Heid, whose ECHL rights were acquired by Fresno at the ECHL trade deadline on March 15, met the team in San Diego last night and will make his debut this evening in Game Three of the Pacific Division Semi-finals between the Falcons and the San Diego Gulls at ipayOne Center. Fresno leads the best-of-seven Kelly Cup Playoffs series two games to none.
Heid was acquired from the Pensacola Ice Pilots in exchange for future considerations, but for the past month, he has been playing for Fresno's American Hockey League affiliate, the Cleveland Barons. He is under contract to the Wild and was the NHL club's 3rd round selection in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot-2, 207 lb. d-man played his entire rookie season in 2003-04 in the AHL with the Houston Aeros before splitting last season between the Aeros and the ECHL's Louisiana Ice Gators.
This season, Heid began the campaign in Houston before playing 50 games in Pensacola, where he registered 20 points (4g-16a) and 69 penalty minutes. The Wild then loaned the third-year pro to the Barons for whom he generated two assists in four games.
The radio broadcast of tonight's Game Three from San Diego on 1550 Sporting News Radio will be tape delayed, beginning immediately following the broadcast of the Fresno Grizzlies' home opener at approximately 10 p.m. If the baseball game is postponed due to inclement weather, however, the Falcons-Gulls game will be joined live in progress. Saturday's Game Four can be heard live on 1550 SNR beginning with the FutureTek Pre-game Show at 6:45 p.m.
Fans may view both Games Three and Four live online courtesy of B2 Networks, which can be accessed via the Falcons home page at www.fresnofalcons.com. Friday's drop of the puck is at 7:35 p.m., while Saturday's start is 7:05 p.m.
If necessary, a Game Five would be played in San Diego on Monday, Apr. 17, with Games Six and Seven back at Save Mart Center on Apr. 20 and 22 at 7:30 p.m.
