
Burrows Named MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus Of The Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Former ECHL left wing Alex Burrows of the Vancouver
Canucks is the MeiGray Group ECHL Alumnus of the Month for March.
Burrows scored four points (3g-1a) and had 35 penalty minutes in 14 games
helping the Canucks go 6-7-1 in March to keep their hopes alive for a berth
in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Burrows scored his first National Hockey League hat trick, including the
game-winning goal, in a 7-4 win against the Los Angeles Kings on Mar. 27.
The 6-foot-1 and 190-pound Burrows made his NHL debut on Jan. 2, recording
five penalty minutes in a 4-1 loss to St. Louis. In his fifth NHL game, he
scored his first NHL goal and registered his first assist in a 4-3 win
against Toronto on Jan. 10. He has 11 points (7g-4a) and 59 penalty minutes
in 39 games for the Canucks.
Burrows, who turned 25 years old on Tuesday, began his professional career
in the ECHL in 2002-03 when he had 26 points (9g-17a) and 201 penalty
minutes in 53 games with Greenville and six points (4g-2a) and 64 penalty
minutes in 13 games with Baton Rouge.
He returned to the ECHL in 2003-04 registered career bests with 29 goals,
44 assists and 73 points in 64 regular season games and had two goals and
28 penalty minutes in four Kelly Cup Playoff games with Columbia while also
playing in two games with Manitoba of the American Hockey League. He was
selected to the ECHL All-Star Game and had an assist in the Eastern
Conference's 7-6 win.
In 2004-05 he had six points (5g-1a) in four games with Columbia before
playing in the AHL with Manitoba where he had 26 points (9g-17a) and 107
penalty minutes in 72 regular season games and three assists and 37 penalty
minutes in 14 playoff games.
The Premier 'AA' Hockey League has affiliations with 25 of the 30 teams in
the NHL and there are over 100 players on ECHL rosters under contract to an
NHL team. There are two head coaches (Peter Laviolette and John
Torchetti), 12 assistant coaches, 13 referees and five linesmen working
in the NHL in 2005-06 who have ECHL experience.
There have been 43 former ECHL players who have made their NHL debut in
2005-06 raising the total number of players who have played in the NHL
after the ECHL to 299.
The leading distributor of game-worn hockey jerseys and "Official Game-Worn
Jersey Source of the ECHL," MeiGray has sold almost 3,000 game-worn
ECHL jerseys since the program began in 2002-03, including almost 900 each
of the past two seasons.
