Nailers Power Past Royals, 7-3 in Home Opener

WHEELING, WV- On Friday night, the Wheeling Nailers played their first home game of the 2012-13 regular season, and treated their fans to a thrilling display of offense. After taking a 2-1 lead in the first, the Nailers exploded for three power play goals in the second, leading them to a 7-3 victory over the Reading Royals. Paul Crowder and Bobby Farnham each tallied twice in the win.

Fans had to wait until the 7:44 mark of the game to see a Nailers goal, when Paul Crowder scored, off a centering pass by Philippe Lefebvre. Less than four minutes later, Crowder scored his second of the game, splitting through the defense, drawing assists from Cody Wild and Paul Cianfrini. Cianfrini's assist was his first point as a Nailer. The Royals got on the board with a goal from TJ Syner, his second of the season, assisted by Ethan Cox at 13:15.

The second period was filled with penalties, while the net was filled with Nailers goals. On the first power play of the period, the Nailers extended their lead, as Stefan Chaput put back the rebound of Cody Wild's initial shot. Cody Chupp also picked up an assist, at 4:54. A little more than halfway through the frame, the Nailers netted a second tally on the power play, when Cody Wild blasted his first goal of the season in from the middle of the blueline, with assists by Chaput and Crowder. At 12:13, the Nailers added to their goal total, making it 5-1, with a goal by Daultan Leveille, assisted by Wild and Reid McNeill.

5:21 into the third period, the Nailers lit the lamp again, as Bobby Farnham buried a feed from Stefan Chaput. Joe Stejskal also assisted on Wheeling's sixth goal. Chris Langkow and TJ Syner brought the Royals within two, as they scored twice in shortly under eight minutes. However, the Nailers had the final say, with Bobby Farnham netting the team's fourth power play goal of the night, assisted by Crowder and Cianfrini, giving the game its 7-3 final.

Patrick Killeen earned the win in goal for Wheeling, making 28 saves on 31 shots. Brandon Anderson took the loss for Reading, allowing seven goals on 37 shots.
