Tonight is the first of four scheduled meetings between the Jackals and Cyclones this season, and the first of two at First Arena. The Jackals are 15-8-5 all-time against the Cyclones and went 3-0-0 against them last season. Elmira defeated Cincinnati 3-1 the last time the clubs met on February 16, 2012 in Cincinnati. The Jackals and Cyclones enter this game as the only two teams in the league yet to lose in regulation. Cincinnati's lone loss came in overtime against Toledo on October 19. The Cyclones have become used to playing close games early on with the margin of victory in their games averaging 1.33 and never topping two. For Elmira, though, only one game has been decided by a goal and their average margin of victory is 3.5.
Special teams play has been a driving force behind the Jackals' strong start to the season. Entering play tonight the Jackals rank at the top of the league in power play efficiency (35%) and penalty kill efficiency (100%). They are the only team yet to allow a power play goal this season. Artem Demkov and Andrew Rowe have been the main culprits on the power play as they are tied for the league lead with two power play goals each. Dustin Gazley has set up three power play goals to tie for second in the league. The Jackals will work against a Cincinnati club that ranks sixth in the league on the power play (20%) and 11th in the league on the penalty kill (84.6%).
Mark your calendars! The Jackals are back on First Arena ice on Saturday, October 27, 2012 to take on the Cincinnati Cyclones at 7:05 p.m. Kids 12 and under can come in a costume to take part in Trick-or-Treating on the First Arena suite level from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Anyone who comes dressed in a costume can get 50 percent off of a full-priced walk up ticket.
