Nailers Announce Protected List

June 3, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, proud ECHL affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens, have announced their first roster activity for the 2013 offseason. On Monday, the team produced its Protected List, completing the first of four key dates in the month of June.

For a player to be included on the Protected List, his ECHL rights must be owned by that team, as defined under Article I of the ECHL/PHPA Collective Bargaining Agreement, as well as ECHL Playing Rule 48. A player is not allowed to be on the Protected List, if he was placed on team suspension or signed to an NHL or AHL contract prior to October 12, 2012 (the first day of the 2012-13 regular season). There is no limit to the amount of players that may be listed on each club's Protected List.

The announcement of the Protected List will lead into three more significant events in June. On June 13th, all trades including future considerations must be completed. Two days later, on June 15th, Season Ending Rosters must be submitted, which will feature no more than twenty players per team. Finally, on June 16th, teams will have the opportunity to sign players who are either on their Season Ending Roster or are Unrestricted Free Agents.
