Mystics to help raise breast cancer awareness

Washington, D.C- As the presenting sponsor of the Breast Health Awareness Game to be held on July 13th at 3:30 p.m., Sibley Memorial Hospital has joined the Washington Mystics to raise awareness and money for underserved and uninsured women in the metropolitan area. The nationally televised contest between the Mystics and the Connecticut Sun will feature breast cancer survivors who will be honored guests at the game, compliments of Sibley and the Mystics. Mystics President and Managing Partner Sheila C. Johnson, and Monica Thompson, breast cancer survivor and wife of Georgetown's Head Basketball Coach, John Thompson III, will be on hand for the event.

"This day is a very special date on our 2008 schedule as we raise awareness and proceeds for the fight against breast cancer," Mystics Chief Operating Officer Greg Bibb stated. "We are honored to have Sibley Memorial Hospital as our partner for this important initiative. We encourage everyone in the Mystics community to be at Verizon Center on July 13th to join us in honoring breast cancer survivors and to participate in the post-game auction."

In celebration of the Breast Health Awareness Game, the first 5,000 fans arriving to the contest will receive pink rally towels courtesy of Sibley. Following the contest, the jerseys worn by the Mystics players for that day's contest will be auctioned off with the proceed benefiting the Sullivan Center Breast Health at Sibley Memorial. Other items up for bid include autographed game balls and shoes, the opportunity to play H-O-R-S-E with a Mystics player, and more.

Robert L. Sloan, President and Chief Executive Officer at Sibley Memorial Hospital, says "We diagnosis and treat more breast cancer than any other hospital in Washington, DC and Maryland and it is only fitting that our team of experts partner with the Mystics for this important cause."
