Frederick Keys News Release

After taking the lead in the top half of the tenth inning, Frederick Keys RHP Brett Jacobson walked four Myrtle Beach Pelicans batters to tie the game. Myrtle Beach 3B Donnell Linares then hit a game-winning RBI-single, as the Pelicans defeated the Keys 4-3.

The Pelicans jumped on the scoreboard first in Sunday night's contest. RF Jon Mark Owings was hit by a pitch. He then stole second, and scored on SS Randy Gress' RBI-single, making it 1-0.

Frederick answered back in the fourth. With one on and two out, 2B Bobby Stevens lifted a two-run homer. His sixth round-tripper of the season gave the Keys a 2-1 lead.

The advantage didn't last long. Linares led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo homerun to deep left field, tying the game at two.

Keys LHP Rick Zagone exited after the sixth. He surrendered just the two runs on four hits, and struck out seven.

The game stayed tied until the top of the 10th. With one out, LF Matt Tucker worked a walk. Stevens then lifted a bloop single to left field. RF Billy Rowell then shot a ground ball single through the left side. Tucker scored from second, giving the Keys a 3-2 lead.

Jacobson took the hill in the 10th for his second inning of work. Jacobson ended up walking the bases loaded with one man out. SS Michael Fisher then worked the count to 2-2. Fisher took two borderline pitches that were called balls, knocking in the tying run. With the bases still juiced, Linares singled to left, scoring the winning run for Myrtle Beach.

RHP Brandon Beachy (4-3) got the win for the Pelicans, despite allowing a run on two hits in an inning of relief. Jacobson (0-2) took the loss for the Keys.

The Keys hit the road for Kinston on Monday to open up a four-game series with the Indians. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. The Keys will return to Frederick on Friday, August 28th, to play the final six games of their regular season home schedule. For ticket information, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
