Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, completed a 10-game roadtrip Sunday afternoon, falling 4-1 at the Lynchburg Hillcats.

The day started rough for Myrtle Beach starter Kyle Hendricks. The righty used 34 pitches to navigate the first inning, although he escaped allowing only one run. Hendricks would lock down from that point on, pitching around 10 hits to allow three runs, only one of which was earned. His season ERA fell to 2.80.

Where the Pelicans got hurt was on defense. The Birds were charged with five errors, two on both Odubel Herrera and Christian Villanueva at short and third and on rightfielder Josh Richmond, who overran a ball in the sixth inning. The five miscues are the most by the Pelicans this season, topping the four committed on April 10th against Potomac.

Offensively the Pelicans mustered just six hits, five singles, against Lynchburg starter JR Graham, who worked eight innings and dropped his ERA to 2.61. Jared Hoying singled in the third to score Odubel Herrera for the Bird's only run. Myrtle Beach recorded only two outs in the air against Graham.

The Pelicans did muster a small rally in the ninth, putting the first two batters on with walks from Juan Jamie. Santiago Chirino belted a ball down the leftfield line with two outs, but sent it foul, and one pitch later lined out to second.

Myrtle Beach concludes its roadtrip 4-6 and is now 15-14 on the season. The Pelicans return home Tuesday at 7:05 against the Carolina Mudcats. Tickets are available at 843-918-6000 or by heading online to MyrtleBeachPelicans.com, powered by TicketReturn.
