ZEBULON, NC - A long day of baseball came to an end when Carlos Moncrief raced home to score on a wild pitch in the tenth inning of the second game of a doubleheader at Five County Stadium on Sunday evening.

The Carolina Mudcats (15-14) came away with 3-2 win against the Frederick Keys (10-17) to finish off 17 innings of play in front of 3,888. The Keys took the first game, a scheduled seven innings, 1-0 behind a stellar start from Mike Wright.

With the game two tied 2-2 in the last of the tenth, Carlos Moncrief led off with his second triple of the game. Clayton Schrader (1-1) and the Keys intentionally walked Jesus Aguilar and Jake Lowery to load the bases. With a drawn-in defense, Schrader bounced a pitch home that sailed past catch Joe Oliveira, allowing the winning run to score.

Dale Dickerson (2-2) picked up the win by tossing two scoreless innings on one hit.

Frederick took the lead thanks to a defensive lapse by the Mudcats in the fifth. In all, the Key scored two runs thanks to a pair of errors, a hit batter and five stolen bases.

Tyler Holt singled in a run in the fifth, and Aguilar hit a fly ball to center that scored Moncrief, squaring the game 2-2 in the sixth.

In game one, Wright (4-1) dealt six-and-a-third scoreless innings, scattering five hits and striking out four to earn the win. Kipp Schutz singled home the eventual game winner in the first inning. David Walters pitched the final inning for his third save. The game ended on a ground out with the tying run at third.

Michael Goodnight (1-2) had a solid start for the Mudcats, allowing one run over five innings.

The Carolina Mudcats begin a three game series at Myrtle Beach on Tuesday, May 8. The team returns home to face the Potomac Nationals for three starting May 11.Tickets are available through the box office by calling (919) 269-2287 or visiting carolinamudcats.com.
