Billings Mustangs News Release
BILLINGS, Mont. - The Billings Mustangs (8-5, 23-28) and the Rocky Mountain Vibes (6-6, 23-28) split a doubleheader on Sunday in their final meeting of the regular season 4-3, 6-3 in front of 2,265 at Dehler Park.
Hits came at a premium for both sides in game one of the doubleheader. Through five innings of play, there were just five combined hits in the game.
Justin McGregor (3-4) earned a win in his third consecutive start for the Mustangs, throwing 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits, not issuing a walk and striking out four.
Billings got all of their scoring done inside of the first three innings, scoring four runs on just one hit in that time. The Mustang offense was aided by four walks and three errors during those three innings to take a lead they would never relinquish.
Quin Cotton was walked three times in game one and five times overall in seven plate appearances on Sunday.
TJ Hopkins went 3-for-4, scoring two runs in the win and accounting for three of the five Billings hits in the game.
Game two of the doubleheader went the way of the Vibes early as they established a third-inning lead that the Mustangs could not catch. Ernesto Martinez and Jose Sibrian both hit solo home runs in the game to help Rocky Mountain hold off a Billings push that brought them within a run to split the twin bill.
Quincy McAfee went 2-for-3 with a double and a run in the second game for the Mustangs, recording his fourth multi-hit game of the season.
The Mustangs and Vibes have split their season series, 4-4, and have concluded regular-season play against each other.
The Mustangs now host the Grand Junction Rockies for a four-game series in Billings. First pitch on Monday, Aug. 12, in game one is set for 6:35 p.m. MDT at Dehler Park.
