Billings Mustangs News Release

BILLINGS, Montana - After their 4-3 win over the Ogden Raptors at Dehler Park on Friday night, the Billings Mustangs are now one win away from 3,000 total wins in team history.

With a history stretching back to 1948, the Mustangs own an all-time record of 2,999-2,653 over 66 seasons. In that span, the Mustangs have won 15 league championships with 11 of them coming in the current Pioneer League format; their most recent being the 2014 season.

"The city of Billings has embraced this team for the past 66 seasons," commented General Manager Gary Roller. "It is in part due to this wonderful support that the Mustangs have been able to reach such an impressive milestone. As I'm sure all Mustangs fans are, we are looking forward to many more years of memorable baseball in this fantastic community."

217 former Mustangs have played Major League Baseball with 12 former Mustangs making appearances for the Cincinnati Reds just this season.

"It's very special," said current Mustangs manager Ray Martinez. "This is one of my favorite places that I've coached. The front office, the people, the stadium have all been top notch. I've enjoyed every minute of it and hopefully we can bring a championship home this year to celebrate. 3,000 wins is something very special."

The Mustangs have five games left, and five opportunities, to reach 3,000 wins during their current home stand. First pitch on Saturday night from Dehler Park is set for 6:05 p.m. against the Ogden Raptors.

In addition to the 2018 season being the 66th year that the Mustangs franchise has called Billings home, it also marks the 45th consecutive season that the Mustangs have served as the Rookie affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds. The partnership between the Mustangs and Reds, which began in 1974, is the longest running affiliation in the Pioneer League and one of the longest in all of professional baseball.

This year has also brought the election of former Mustangs shortstop Trevor Hoffman to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. On Jul. 29, Hoffman joined George Brett as the only former Mustangs to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
