LACONIA, Nh. - What goes around, comes around.

Earlier this season, the Mainers trailed by eight runs and rallied to defeat Winnipesaukee, but tonight the table turned the other way. After jumping out to an early seven-run lead the Muskrats came from behind to top Sanford, 10-9.

Sanford jumped ahead in the first to take an early lead. A two-out double by Aidan Kane (Delaware) put him in scoring position, then Jake Rainess (Maine) put a ball in play, and then an error by the pitcher Patrick Harrington (Northeastern) allowed Kane to score, 1-0.

In the top of the second, the Mainers tacked on another as Joey Rezek (East Carolina) scored on the single from Alex Knapp (George Mason), 2-0.

Jack Thorbahn (Northeastern) launched one over the fence in left-center to cut the lead in half, 2-1.

The bats stayed hot in the third, as Rainess doubled to score Quinn McDaniel (Maine). Later, Adam Dapkewicez (Georgetown) ripped one down the right field line that scored both Kane and Rainess. Finally, Rezek scored on an RBI fielder's choice from Devan Bade (Binghamton), 6-1.

It was a similar story in the fourth a pair of stolen bases by Cal Hewett (Vanderbilt) put him 90 feet away. Then, a loud double by Rainess hitting the top of the fence scored Hewett. David Bermudez (Manhattan) got in on the fun with a triple that pushed Rainess home, 8-1.

Winnipesaukee would not go down without a fight as a pair of runs in the fifth chased Jack Mullen (Bowdoin), 8-3. Mullen went five innings, struck out two and allowed three runs.

In the sixth, a lead-off home run from Zach DeMattio (Wheaton) cut into the lead. Lightning would strike twice a couple of batters later as Matt Alifano smoked one over the left-field wall, 8-6.

During the next inning, Winnipesaukee would take their first lead. Christian Mercedes (Southern New Hampshire) scored on a wild pitch, then an RBI groundout from DeMattio tied the game. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded Jacob Corson (Bucknell) worked a walk to bring in the go-ahead run, 9-8.

While the green and yellow were down, they were not out. Hewett swiped third and scored on a wild pitch, 9-9.

In the bottom of the eighth, DeMattio would come up clutch with the eventual game-winning hit that scored Rany Flores (Franklin Pierce).

Tonight's result makes things a little tighter in the playoffs race as both sides now sit at 13-16 on the year.

Sanford will stay in the Granite State as they travel for a date with the Keene Swamp Bats, Zackary Given (UMass) will make his first start of the year.

The two foes have split the season series, as both have two wins.
