USHL Sioux City Musketeers

Musketeers Look for Revenge against Roughriders

October 11, 2018 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Sioux City Musketeers News Release

The Musketeers will go on the road for their 4th regular season game of the year on Saturday, October 13th at 7:05 pm against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders. During the 2017-18 season, the RoughRiders won both regular-season games against the Musketeers. Sioux City lost the first game to the RoughRiders at home by a final score of 6-4 and was shut out 4-0 when they traveled to Cedar Rapids.

The Roughriders took advantage of their powerplay opportunities in those contests going 3-9, good for 33%. The Musketeers could not capitalize on their six total powerplay opportunities. Sioux City is still trying to find their stride on the powerplay this year, going just 1 for 12 with the man advantage this season. On the flip side, the Musketeer penalty kill has been very strong through the first three games, allowing just 1 goal on 12 penalty kills to put the PK% at 91.7%, good for fourth in the USHL.

The Musketeers will now travel to Cedar Rapids this weekend, the first of two matchups this year with the RoughRiders. The Musketeers are coming off a gritty, hard-fought 3-1 win over the Green Bay Gamblers last Friday, while Cedar Rapids had an overtime win against the Dubuque Fighting Saints.

In net, the Roughriders return goalie Blake Pietila who stopped 32/36 (89%) of the Musketeers shots last year in Cedar Rapids' 6-4 victory in Sioux City. After splitting time with Jiri Patera last season, Pietila seems to have grabbed the starting position this year, helping Cedar Rapids to three wins in four games with a 1.49 GAA and .952 SV%.

The Roughriders also return players Kyle Looft, who scored 2 goals against the Musketeers last year, Nathan Smith, who also had a goal against the Musketeers last year along with Marek Valach and Liam Walsh. Martin Pospisil was the lone Musketeer returner to have found the back of the net against Cedar Rapids.

The Musketeers have had a solid start to the season at a 2-1-0-0 record, scoring 11 goals in 3 games. The Roughriders also have also started strong with a 3-0-1-0 record scoring 12 goals in 4 games, so there should be no shortage of offense in this one.

The Musketeers will have two more road games, next Thursday and Friday against the Fargo Force, before returning home to take on the Waterloo Black Hawks in the 2018 Home Opener. Anna and Evan from 35th and Taylor will be there to perform live before the game. Food will be available outside the Tyson Events Center starting at 5:00pm and you can purchase two 24oz domestic beers for only $12.00.
