Musketeers Fall to Thunder 2-1

SIOUX CITY | Bloomington held off a third-period charge by Sioux City to earn a 2-1 victory at the Tyson Events Center on Friday.

The Thunder took a 2-1 lead into the third period only to be outshot by the Musketeers 11-6. However, Bloomington goaltender Hayden Lavigne made 26 saves and helped preserve the win as neither team scored in the final period.

Bloomington held the 29-27 advantage in shots for the game and had the 23-16 lead after two periods.

Eeli Tolvanen got the Musketeers only in the second period with his third goal of the season to tie the game at 1-all. Tolvanen scored off an assist from Jake Ryczek.

The Thunder would take the lead into the second intermission when Sean Harrison scored with less than three minutes to play to put Bloomington up 2-1.

Bloomington struck first in the game as Blake Gober scored off an assist from Tarek Baker less than seven minutes into the game.

Neither team scored a power-play goal, but there were just three penalties whistled in the game.

The Musketeers pulled Came Gornet with 44 seconds left in the game but could not get the equalizer with the extra man. Gornet made 27 saves.

Bloomington improved to 2-3 with the victory while Sioux City is now 2-2 on the season. The two teams are back at it again Saturday night at the Tyson Events Center.

Second period: 2, Sioux City - Eeli Tolvanen (Ryczek), 4:37. 3, Bloomington - Sean Harrison (Van Barr, Jake Slaker), 17:32. Penalties: Ryan Zuhlsdorf, SC, hooking, 9:09.

Third period: No scoring. Penalties: Steve Merl, B, cross checking, 4:08.
