USHL Dubuque Fighting Saints

Muskegon Scores Late, Edges Dubuque 5-4

December 12, 2020 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

Philip Tresca scored with 35 seconds left in the third period and Muskegon completed the sweep of the Fighting Saints. The Saints put together the best game of the series but couldn't close things out against Muskegon. Stephen Halliday, Connor Kurth, Riley Stuart and Reggie Millette scored for Dubuque in the loss. Davis Pennington scored twice for Muskegon.

-Like they did all series, Muskegon grabbed the first goal of the game as Davis Pennington scored to start the game. Pennington's strike just 59 seconds in led to another strong start for the Jacks.

-Dubuque was able to get an answer of their own as they pushed back quickly. Just six minutes after the Jacks goal, Reggie Millette scored his second of the series on a nice feed from Ryan Alexander. The goal was the second of the year as well for Reggie and the first USHL point for Alexander.

-Tristan Lemyre took a five-minute major after the Saints goal and Muskegon capitalized. Rhett Pitlick scored his first of the season, banking a goal in off a Saints skate for the second of the game. Outside of that, Muskegon didn't generate much as the Saints did a good job on the kill.

-Late in the period Dubuque received a power play opportunity. However, Muskegon was the team that took advantage as Pitlick scored his second goal of the game on a sweet slide along the ice. Pitlick's goals in the first period were his first two of the season.

-Dubuque played arguably their best period of the season in the second period against Muskegon. The physicality was a notch or two above the norm for the series and both teams didn't pass up many opportunities to throw checks.

-An early power play for Dubuque helped the Saints trim the lead to one as Riley Stuart scored his second of the series, notching a power play goal on a deflection in front of the net.

-Just a minute three seconds after, Connor Kurth was able to tie things up as he banged away at a rebound in front of Jan Skorpik. The goal was Kurth's first since opening night. All four of his goals on the year have come against the Lumberjacks.

-Stephen Halliday scored early in the third period for Dubuque 12 seconds into the period to give the Saints a boost. However, Pennington was able to answer with his second of the game to tie things up.

-The teams skated to a tight period after the goal, but a costly giveaway from Dubuque with less than a minute led to the final goal from Tresca.

-Dubuque heads to Green Bay on Tuesday to take on the Gamblers for the first time this season. Puck will drop at 7:05 CT.
