Muskegon Ends Dubuque's Season in Game Four with 2-1 Win

Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
The Fighting Saints season came to an end with a 2-1 loss to the Muskegon Lumberjacks as the top seed in the East moves on to face Chicago. Dubuque and Muskegon played their tightest and lowest scoring game of the series as they battled defensively for all sixty minutes. Muskegon stymied Dubuque in the final stanza, limiting their chances and keeping the offense at bay.
-The Fighting Saints rebounded after two tough games in Muskegon to push the Lumberjacks in games three and four. The Fighting Saints won game three and were right with Muskegon in game four. The difference was a gritty goal by Ryan Savage in the second period.
-Matthew Thiessen saved his best performances for the playoffs. Thiessen was once again unbelievable for the Saints as he made multiple highlight reel saves once again. Dubuque backed the netminder well defensively tonight, but the offense couldn't muster enough.
-Matias Maccelli finally broke the ice for Dubuque in the second period as he notched his first playoff goal. Maccelli finished the playoffs with five points in six games and he finished the season with 77 points in 68 games.
-Dubuque's downfall in the game was largely in part due to the stylistic switch up implemented by Muskegon. The Fighting Saints were kept at bay and to the outside in the third period as Muskegon was strong defensively. The Fighting Saints couldn't find the back of the net in the third as Muskegon closed the door.
-The Saints finished the playoffs with 3-3 record after sweeping Youngstown. The two wins over Youngstown were Dubuque's first two wins over the Phantoms in program history in the playoffs. Dubuque found their legs in the third and fourth games against Muskegon after dealing with some fatigue in the first two.
-With the win, the Lumberjacks moved on to the Conference Finals for just the second time in their history. Muskegon will face the two seed in Chicago as the Steel moved past Cedar Rapids in four games. Muskegon and Chicago will get their series started Saturday.
