Dubuque Scores Four in First, Forces Game Four with 5-1 Win

The Fighting Saints put together their most convincing game of the postseason, dominating in a 5-1 victory over the Lumberjacks. In a do or die game, Dubuque tallied four times in the first period to put Muskegon on their heels early. Matthew Thiessen made 43 stops in what was arguably his finest performance yet and the Saints forced another game at Mystique Community Ice Center.

-Thiessen has been unbelievable this playoff for the Fighting Saints. He has made 34 saves in game one, 38 in game two and 43 tonight. The Saints netminder has saved his best for the postseason and been exceptional. Thiessen has made 40 saves in four games this season (including regular season).

-Dubuque scored four in the first, marking the second time they have done so in a period this season. The other game occurred in the regular season with Dubuque scoring four goals in the first period against Madison. The Saints blistered through all three zones.

-Muskegon created a strong push in the second period but Thiessen played his best minutes when Muskegon was at their best. The netminder made 13 stops in the second. Muskegon also hit a few posts, but Thiessen was the difference maker.

-Brandon Bussi was pulled after the first three goals, then was put back in the net to begin the second period. Bussi wasn't awful, but it was by far his shakiest game of the season. There is no doubt Muskegon will go with Bussi tomorrow, but it will be interesting to see how confident he is.

-The frustration was evident from the Lumberjacks as the penalty minutes mounted in the third period. There were nine 10-minute misconducts in the contest and the teams combined for 23 penalties in the third period alone. The total was 150 penalty minutes in the game as the teams were over the edge in the third.

-J.D. Greenway was a monster in the game. He had four points with two goals and two assists. Greenway went in to the game without a point in the postseason and emerged tied for the team lead in points. Greenway was involved in many of the scrums and he and Jagger Joshua were going after it all night.

-The Saints, despite the win, have still allowed 35 shots or more in all three games this series. Muskegon had their chances tonight; the difference was Dubuque's offense was clicking on all cylinders. The Saints will need another outcome like tonight to force a decisive game five on Saturday.

-Game four will be tomorrow at Mystique Community Ice Center as the Saints will look to force that game five. Puck drop is set for 7:05.
