Murphy Placed on DL; Liccien Transferred to Charleston

CHARLESTON, SC - The New York Yankees announced Thursday that Charleston RiverDogs catcher J.R. Murphy has been placed on the DL, retroactive to Sept. 1, and catcher Jhorge Liccien has been transferred from the GCL Yankees to the RiverDogs.

Murphy, a second round selection of the Yankees in the 2009 First Year Player Draft, has appeared in 87 games with the RiverDogs, including 53 starts at catcher and 36 as DH. The Bradenton, Fla. native is currently hitting .255 on the year, with 46 runs, 15 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 54 RBI and four stolen bases. Prior to the 2010 campaign, Murphy was tabbed as the No. 8 prospect in the Yankees organization by Baseball America.

Liccien, a Tucupita, Venezuela native, has appeared in 27 games with the GCL Yankees this season, with 23 starts at catcher and four appearances as a pinch hitter. The 19-year-old prospect posted a .215 batting average in the Gulf Coast League, with nine runs, five doubles, a triple, a home run and 14 RBI.

The RiverDogs wrap up their four-game home set against the Greenville Drive Thursday night with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch, before starting another four-game home series on Friday against the Greensboro Grasshopper to close out the 2010 season.
