Erie Otters News Release
Barrie, Ontario - The Erie Otters defeated the Barrie Colts 4-2 in Barrie Saturday night thanks to strong performances by goaltender Daniel Murphy, who made 42 saves, and forwards Hayden Fowler, Maxim Golod, and Danial Singer, who each recorded two points to help lead Erie to its second straight win.
The Otters took a 1-0 lead nearly halfway through the opening frame when Danial Singer and Maxim Golod set up Hayden Fowler for a powerplay goal. Austen Swankler added to the Erie lead as time was winding down in the period, scoring an unassisted goal with 23 seconds remaining. The Otters headed into the first intermission with a two-goal lead.
Erie went to work early in the second stanza and Maxim Golod scored the game-winning goal just 40 seconds into the period. Jamie Drysdale and Emmett Sproule collected assists on Golod's goal. The Otters added insurance at the 13:18 mark of the second frame when Fowler fed the puck to Danial Singer, who scored his fifth of the year and gave Erie a 4-0 advantage ahead of the final period.
Barrie finally found an answer to Daniel Murphy nearly four minutes into the third period when Nicholas Porco scored for the Colts. Barrie pulled their netminder late in the game and Luke Bignell cut Erie's lead to two goals with one minute remaining in the third period. Murphy and the Otters held on to defeat the Colts 4-2.
Erie will be back in action Sunday, November 10 in Owen Sound to take on the Attack at 2 p.m.
