New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Jack Murphy had a home run and a double on Wednesday afternoon, but they served as the few bright spots in a 5-2 loss to the Trenton Thunder. The defeat gave the Thunder (48-55) the series victory, 3-1, and left the Fisher Cats (48-56) with a 4-4 record on their eight-game homestand.
After getting shut out on Tuesday night, the Thunder wasted no time getting on the board against Matt Boyd (L; 1-4). With one out and a pair of men on in the first, Peter O'Brien doubled into the left field corner for a 1-0 lead. Tyler Austin followed with a double to right to plate two more and put the Thunder on top, 5-0.
Austin got Boyd again in the third inning. Following another double by O'Brien, he smashed a home run on top of the Samuel Adams Bar & Grill to pad the lead at 5-0. It was his fifth home run as well as the fifth allowed by Boyd for the Fisher Cats.
Boyd left after a perfect fourth inning. He allowed five runs on seven hits, striking out four and walking one in his first loss in three games against the Thunder.
Zach Nuding earned the win for the Thunder, rolling through eight innings with little trouble. He lost his shutout bid when Murphy homered to lead off the seventh. A sac fly by Andy Fermin against reliever Phil Wetherell in the ninth plated the Fisher Cats' final run.
The Fisher Cats now hit the road for seven straight beginning Thursday night in Harrisburg, Pa. First pitch of the series opener is at 7 p.m. with lefty Daniel Norris on the hill for the Fisher Cats. Radio coverage begins at 6:45 p.m. with Tom Gauthier on WGIR 610 AM and www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return home after the road trip for an epic four-day, five-game homestand with the Reading Fightin Phils. The series begins on Thursday, July 31 with an Atlas Fireworks Show and visit by the Red Sox World Series Trophies from 2004, 2007, and 2013.
