
Curve Offense Rocks New Britain in Series Finale

New Britain, Conn. - The Altoona Curve muscled their way to an 8-5 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats on Wednesday afternoon at New Britain Stadium. The Curve belted three straight home runs in the second and saw the offense tally 17 total hits in the series victory over the Twins Double-A affiliate.
Altoona got off to a quick start in the first inning to take the lead. Drew Maggi hustled his way to a one-out single, stole second, and scored two batters later when Willy Garcia grounded a ball up the middle.
Three home runs catapulted Altoona to an even bigger lead in the second. Keon Broxton, Gift Ngoepe, and Carlos Paulino went back-to-back-to-back and made it a 4-0 lead for the Curve. Josh Bell followed with an RBI single later in the inning, For the 21-year-old, it was his first RBI of his Double-A career and helped Altoona take a 5-0 advantage.
The Rock Cats' Kennys Vargas hit a solo home run in the second but Altoona responded with a run in the fourth. Jarek Cunningham led off the inning with a single and advanced on a sac bunt by Hanson. Maggi followed with his third hit of the game, a single to center that plated Cunningham and gave Altoona a 6-1 lead.
In the fifth, the Curve took a 7-1 lead. Garcia led off the inning with his second hit of the game, a double to center. He advanced to third on a single by Kelson Brown and scored when Ngoepe grounded a single. However, New Britain tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth on a solo home run by Brandon Waring to make it 7-2 Altoona.
Altoona scored their final run of the game in the seventh inning. Broxton hit an infield single and scored two batters later to give the Curve an 8-2 lead.
After Altoona's 8-2, New Britain began to rally in the next two frames. In the seventh, Waring belted his second home run of the ballgame and in the eighth, Reynaldo Rodriguez hit a two-run double off Emmanuel de Leon. After de Leon was pulled after Rodriguez' two-run double, Kasparek came in and struck out Brandon Waring, then proceeded to work a perfect ninth to accomplish another save.
Adrian Sampson (9-6) picked up the win for Altoona after another quality start. The Washington native went six innings and gave up only two runs on four hits. Pat Dean (7-6) suffered the loss while Kasparek notched his sixth save of the season in as many chances.
Altoona continues their road trip and will travel to Bowie, Maryland to battle the Baysox for a four-game series. LHP Jhonathan Ramos (2-3, 5.34) will take the bump for Altoona against LHP Zach Davies (5-6, 3.78) in game one of the series on Thursday. First pitch is at 6:35 while pregame on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM, and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
The Curve will return home on Monday, July 28 for a lengthy homestand against the Erie SeaWolves and the Richmond Flying Squirrels. Altoona will start off the homestand with postgame fireworks on July 28 & 29.
