
Multiple Players with Capitols Ties Prepare for NHL Draft

Madison Capitols News Release
The annual NHL Draft is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday in Nashville, TN. Last season, the USHL had 57 players selected over the two day draft in Montreal and look to compete with that number again this season. With that, the Capitols have a handful of players who could have their name called over the next two days. One former Capitols defensemen, along with a pair of Capitols draftees from the 2023 USHL Entry Draft headline the group for Madison.
NHL Central Scouting Ranked Players
#8 North American Goalies: Carsen Musser
The Capitols selected Musser with the first of three second round picks in the 2023 Entry Draft. He joins the trio of USNTDP players to be drafted by Madison ahead of the 2023-24 season. Musser played in parts of 40 games this season with NTDP recording a record of 20-10-2. Musser is committed to play his collegiate hockey with Colorado College.
#92 North American Skaters: Austin Burnevik
Austin Burnevik was drafted by Madison during the 2023 USHL Entry Draft in the second round. The tall, left-shot forward reins from Ham Lake, Minnesota and has spent his past two seasons with the US National Team Development Program. In 64 USHL games, Burnevik has tallied 25 points including 13 goals. Burnevik is committed to play his collegiate hockey at St. Cloud State University.
#97 North American Skaters: Luke Mittelstadt
Mittelstadt earned his way onto the NHL Central Scouting Final Rankings that were put out earlier this spring being ranked 97th. Mittelstadt played with the Capitols during the 2021-22 season as Madison made their way to the Clark Cup Final. The Minnesota native led the Capitols in scoring, and was named to the All-USHL First Team for his efforts during the regular season. Mittelstadt recently completed his first season at the University of Minnesota. With the Golden Gophers, Mittelstadt recorded 21 points in 38 games on the blue line.
N/A North American Skaters: Nathan Tobey
Although Tobey was not featured in the final rankings put out by NHL Central Scouting, Tobey was featured throughout NHLCS's first two rankings. He was selected in the first round of the 2023 USHL Entry Draft by the Capitols, 13th overall. The right-shot forward spent his past two seasons playing with the US National Team Development Program. Tobey is committed to play his collegiate hockey at Quinnipiac.
