Northern Colorado Owlz News Release

Chazz Kirkland is multitalented and tackling his first opportunity in pro ball.

Here's what skip had to say ...

From Frank Gonzales: He's a little older, and he's a quality character type kid. It looks like he's versatile. He can play the infield, but he's told me he can also play the outfield. He's got some versatility, and he'll probably run too.

And here's what this NoCo newbie had to say about himself ...

What have been the highlights of your recent playing career? This is actually my first year in professional baseball. When I graduated college in 2019, I took two years off and went into the work force. I thought I was done with baseball. To make a longer story short, here I am, and I'm very excited. I've been training for about a year and a half for this. So the highlights, one is signing with the Owlz and receiving my first professional opportunity. Not only is it a blessing and something I'm grateful for, it's something I've truly been working hard for. Also, in college, I broke the stolen bases record at Iowa Wesleyan University. I was an all-conference athlete in college. I feel like I was one of the best players on my team. I'm just excited to see what highlights I can make in my professional career and just continue to grow.

How would you describe yourself as a ballplayer? Very passionate. Very fiery. Very emotional. That can be both a good ad a bad thing, but I wear my heart on my sleeve and give it all I can to ball out. I'm a great teammate. I'm therefor my brothers. I want to get better. I intend to be the first one in the door and the first one to leave every day. I would also just say that I'm an athlete. I'm a utility guy. I would say I'm a true infielder, but also an outfielder. And I'm passionate. I would say the word 'passion' describes me to the core.

Why is this the right opportunity for you right now? What I've heard about the Owlz and the organization aligns with who I am. They're parallel to the qualities that I look for in an organization and a team. I think they're gonna allow me to play the best baseball that I can play. They're welcoming me with open arms. Frank reached out to me, and we've had great conversations. At all of our team meetings, I can feel the synergy. I feel like it's truly a family. It's something that I truly feel I'm being a part of, something bigger than myself. I'm excited to help. I'm excited to contribute. They're gonna allow me to be me, which I think makes it the best place for me. I've heard nothing but good things. I've been on multiple FaceTime calls with my current teammates. It's been a pleasure getting to know them, and I'm excited to get out there and get the ball rolling.

What makes you most excited to get started in Northern Colorado? Baseball in general. Being able to play, and play at a high level. Being able to play where winning matters. Being able to play where everything is taken seriously and nothing is taken for granted. That excites me. Not just that, but the opportunity to be a role model, be an example for the youth in the community. Continuing to be a role model for my younger sister. Just to showcase and show out. Not only for my Owlz family, but for my family as well. Couldn't be more grateful. Couldn't be more blessed. Just excited to get to Colorado in general, just to get out there and meet my new brothers. I'm excited to start building relationships. I'm excited to start the entire process. I'm just so excited. It's a blessing to receive an opportunity from Northern Colorado, and I intend to produce.
