Northern Colorado Owlz News Release

Henry George jumped into Division I ball for the first time a year ago. Now, this tough-minded Minnesotan is jumping head first into his first professional spring training.

Here's what skip had to say ...

From Frank Gonzales: Hard-nosed player. I like what I see in terms of body and makeup. There's no doubt this is a character guy. This is a guy that's gonna play the game hard. He's gonna take the extra base. He's a base-stealer. Hopefully he can go get it in the outfield. Another left-handed bat too. He a lot of tools: bunt, steal run, left-handed bat. Could be an extra part of our outfield for sure. He's definitely in the mix.

And here's what this NoCo newbie had to say about himself ...

What have been the highlights of your recent playing career? Getting to transfer to South Dakota State starting in the fall of 2021. I was previously at a Division II school, so getting the chance to compete at the highest level possible, at the Division I level, was exciting. It helped me take my game to the next level and push myself. I was able to learn from other people, and they helped me become the player that I am today. At South Dakota State, one highlight was getting to play in the conference tournament. Unfortunately, it was an early exit for us last spring, but I hadn't ever gotten to play postseason baseball at the college level before that. That opportunity was pretty cool.

How would you describe yourself as a ballplayer? I'm a gamer. When I step in between the lines, I'm gonna compete as hard as I can. I'm gonna try to outwork everyone else on the field and use the intangibles I've been given. I've never been able to hit the ball as hard as some other guys, or throw the ball as hard as some other guys, but my compete level in games is what sets me apart. That's how I'm be able to be successful.

Why is this the right opportunity for you right now? Honestly, this is a dream come true. Ever since I was five years old and just started playing baseball, my dream was to play professional baseball. Getting this opportunity is extremely humbling. I'm super thankful for this opportunity. I'm really excited to be a apart of this team and pursue a championship we can bring to Northern Colorado. All glory to God for opening this door. Without him, I don't know where I'd be. He's just given me these abilities to play, and I'm excited to continue to use them. I also wanna thank skip for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I'm really excited to be able to learn from him and the other coaches. I'm excited to learn from the other guys. I get to continue doing what I love.

What makes you most excited to get started in Northern Colorado? Just getting to play baseball and compete again. It's been almost a year since I've been able to play in a game, so I'm really excited to put the uniform on again and step between the lines. I get to go play the game that I love. Again, super thankful for skip. Super excited to be in Colorado. It's honestly the perfect landing spot to start my career. Can't wait to get out there and get started.
