ZEBULON, N.C. (June 12, 2015) - Winston-Salem seized an early two-run lead, but Carolina rattled off eight unanswered runs in an 8-2 victory over the Dash in Friday's series opener at Five County Stadium.

The Dash (25-35) plated their lone two runs before Carolina came to the plate. Adam Engel coaxed a lengthy walk to kick off the frame, and Jake Peter followed with a double to the wall in right-center field. This knock extended Peter's hitting streak to 15, the longest run in the Carolina League this season. At the time of publication, Peter boasted the sixth-longest active streak in all of Minor League Baseball.

Both Engel and Peter scored on RBI groundouts from Trey Michalczewski and Chris Jacobs, respectively, to give the Dash a 2-0 edge. In the second and third innings, Winston-Salem pushed a runner to third with less than two outs, but the club did not take advantage in either instance.

From that point, Carolina (30-30) controlled this contest. The Mudcats snagged the lead for good in the third inning thanks to an RBI double from Sean Godfrey and a two-run double by Keith Curcio. Curcio struck again in the sixth with a mammoth home run down the right field line.

All of these runs came around against James Dykstra (3-4), who logged 1-2-3 innings in his other five frames of work. Dykstra matched a season-high with seven innings, and he permitted just three hits. However, he is in the midst of a four-game personal losing streak, the longest of his Minor League career.

The home-standing Mudcats pulled away in the eighth inning against Andre Wheeler, who surrendered four runs on five hits. Dustin Peterson delivered a two-run double, while both Carlos Franco and Connor Lien chimed in with a run-producing hit, too.

Carolina's duo of Brandon Barker (2-1) and Matt Marksberry befuddled Winston-Salem after the first inning. Barker logged a quality start and only gave up three hits after the first inning, while Marksberry blanked the Dash during a three-inning save.

Thus, the Dash have dropped eight consecutive road games dating back to May 23. Winston-Salem has clinched a non-winning first half with 10 games remaining before the All-Star break.

Winston-Salem and Carolina continue their first series in Zebulon this season on Saturday at 6 p.m. in a game that features a pair of southpaw starters. Jordan Guerrero (0-0, 7.20 ERA) will make his second High-A appearance, while former Winston-Salem pitcher Blair Walters (2-2, 3.02 ERA) counters for Carolina. Pregame coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. on wsdash.com/broadcast and the TuneIn App.
