NEWS & NOTES:

- About Last Night - The Salem Red Sox blanked the Mudcats 2-0 at Five County Stadium behind another strong start. This one came from Matt Barnes who struck out five over six innings. The Red Sox scored runs on a balk and a wild pitch.

- On the Move - The Cleveland Indians announced infielder Justin Toole was transferred back to Carolina from AAA-Columbus. The roster stands at 24, plus two on the disabled list.

- Bad Luck for Goodnight - Starter Michael Goodnight gave his longest outing of 2012 last night...as a reliever. Goodnight tossed six innings, and allowed two runs in a losing decision. The Texan has an ERA of 2.53 in his last three outings, but is 0-2.

- Favor the Left - The Mudcats are 4-0 against left-handed starters this year in five games. Carolina has a team batting average of .295 against southpaws. They are led by Jeremie Tice, who is 7x14 (.500) against lefties with two homers and 10 RBI.

- Strong Arm - Reliever Shawn Armstrong continues to dominate Carolina League hitters. Through 20.1 innings (10 outings), the New Bern, N.C., product has allowed only one run on eight hits. Armstrong has amassed 28 strikeouts to 10 walks.
