Winston-Salem Dash News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Brady Shoemaker delivered with two outs in the eighth as the Dash clawed out a 2-1 win against Lynchburg Friday night in front of 6,204 fans at BB&T Ballpark.
Not only did the Dash remain the only Carolina League team without a three-game losing streak, but fans won while leaving sold out BB&T Ballpark. Krispy Kreme sold more than 200 dozen donuts to Dash fans, with all proceeds going to Victory Junction.
Trayce Thompson drew a two-out walk in the eighth inning and reached third on a Dan Black single. Brady Shoemaker then singled home Thompson for the go-ahead run as the Dash ended a two-game losing streak and regained control of the Southern Division.
Winston-Salem (23-16) scored in the fifth inning to end a stretch of 18 consecutive scoreless innings. Nick Ciolli doubled in the fifth before coming home on a Juan Silverio double.
Lynchburg (22-17) promptly answered in the top of the sixth. Nick Ahmed drew a leadoff walk and was plated on a single by Adam Milligan. The Hillcats stranded two runners in the inning and left multiple men on base in the subsequent frames.
The run in the sixth was the lone tally given up by Dash starter Jake Petricka. The right-hander struck out six batters and gave up three hits in six innings. Nick McCully (3-2) picked up the win with two scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth.
Lynchburg's best opportunity came in the seventh when the Hillcats loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a walk. Steve McCray induced an Adam Milligan fly ball to Brady Shoemaker to end the inning. Milligan also struck out with a runner on base to end the game in the ninth.
The Dash go for the series win Saturday night. Right-hander Justin Collop (3-0, 2.95 ERA) gets the ball Saturday night for Winston-Salem. Lynchburg counters with righty Cody Martin (5-3, 2.83 ERA). First pitch is slated for 7:00.
Tickets to the 2012 California-Carolina League All-Star Game are now on sale. For tickets and more information on the Dash, visit wsdash.com or call (336) 714-2287.
