Frederick Keys News Release

SALEM, VA - With a dominant pitching performance from Mike Wright and an outstanding debut from Michael Mosby, the Keys grabbed a 6-3 win Friday night over the Salem Red Sox at LewisGale Stadium.

Mike Wright, the starting pitcher for Frederick, threw a gem, giving up no earned runs through six innings and struck out a career-high eight batters.

For Michael Mosby, who hadn't played a game yet in 2012, he went 2-for-4 with four RBI including a two-run homerun in the eighth inning. Mosby had never played past Advanced-Rookie Bluefield before debuting Friday night for the Keys.

The win snaps a three game slide as the Keys go to 13-24 on the year.

Wright and Red Sox starter Drake Britton were locked in a pitcher's duel with neither pitcher allowing a run. Britton would be the first to crack, though, as the Keys scored four times in the sixth inning, taking a 4-0 lead they never gave up.

Michael Rooney got the big inning started for the Keys when he drew a leadoff walk against Britton. After Johnny Ruettiger singled to put two runners on base, Jeremy Nowak singled home the first run of the game to give the Keys a 1-0 advantage.

Two batters later, Joe Oliveira singled home a runner to make it 2-0, but it would be Mosby who opened up the game with a two-out two-RBI base hit to make it 4-0 Keys.

The Red Sox would rally in the seventh inning, scoring three times against recent call-up Brandon Erbe. Entering the seventh in relief of Wright, Erbe walked three consecutive batters to load the bases. Then, with relief pitcher Clay Schrader on the mound, Shannon Wilkerson hit a bases-clearing triple to cut the lead to one, as the Keys led only 4-3.

Yet that's when Mosby stepped in, hitting a two-run homerun in the eighth inning to give the Keys some insurance and put them up 6-3.

Schrader closed the door from there, not allowing any runs in relief.
