Carolina Mudcats News Release

Sevierville, TN --- Ty Wright and Geovany Soto clubbed home runs to lead first-place Tennessee past Carolina 6-4 in the series finale at Smokies Park on Wednesday night.

Carolina's Juan Francisco hit the first of his two homers in the first inning against Casey Coleman (W, 11-5) for a 2-0 lead. However, Jeremy Horst (L, 0-2) allowed two in the Smokies' half to tie the game, then a solo homer to Wright in the third inning for a 3-2 Tennessee lead.

Francisco smacked his second homer of the game in the fourth inning to even the game at 3-3, but watched Soto drill a two-run shot against Horst in the fourth as Tennessee (22-18) maintained a share of the Northern Division lead.

Trailing 6-3 in the ninth, Carolina (15-25) rallied with the bases loaded and one out. However, reliever Alex Maestri (S, 3) fanned Zack Cozart on three pitches, leading to Cozart's ejection. Francisco, who drove in all four runs for the Mudcats, was hit on the arm to force in a run, but Todd Frazier bounced to third to end the game.

Coleman won his league-leading 11th game, working 5 1/3 innings, permitting five hits and three runs. Horst worked four frames, allowing nine hits and five runs in his second Double-A start.

Carolina now trails Tennessee and Chattanooga by seven games with 30 to play in the regular season.

The road trip continues on Thursday night in the first of five at West Tenn. Luis Montano (0-1, 6.00) starts for the Mudcats at 8:05 PM ET.
