CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - Lookouts starting pitcher Alberto Bastardo pitched a gem, throwing a complete game three-hitter to lead the Lookouts to a 7-2 win over the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx in Wednesday night action at AT&T Field.
The Lookouts entered the scoreboard in the second on a bases loaded single by James Tomlin, which plated Andrew Lambo on the play. In the third inning, Gaby Martinez hit a solo shot over the right field wall to extend the Lookouts' lead to 2-0.
The Diamond Jaxx got into the scoring mix in the fourth with one run. Johan Limonta tripled to lead off the inning and eventually scored on a Matt Mangini sacrifice fly to left.
Some much-needed insurance runs were added in the sixth by the Lookouts. Eddy Perez began the rally with a walk and made his way to third on an Andrew Lambo ground-rule double. Vinny Rottino followed with a single to center to score Perez.and Lambo.
Gaby Gutierrez joined the hit parade with a single of his own to put runners on first and second. A missed catch error by pitcher Phillippe Aumont while covering first on a double-play attempt resulted in Rottino scoring and the Lookouts holding a 5-1 edge.
Two more insurance runs were added by the Lookouts in the eighth on four singles by Gutierrez, Adam Godwin, Tomlin, and Ramon Nivar. Doubles by Limonta and Mangini gave West Tennessee one more run in the ninth, but Bastardo (4-2) was able to go the distance for the complete game. The lefty struck out eight, while walking three during the outing.
Nicholas Hill (3-4) took the loss for the Diamond Jaxx. In 5.1 innings of work, he yielded four runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks, while striking out six.
The Jacksonville Suns will roll into AT&T Field to begin a five-game series against the Lookouts at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849
