Carolina Mudcats News Release
Zebulon, NC --- Darron Ingram pounded a three-run, two-out homer in the eighth to snap a 2-2 tie as the Birmingham Barons defeated the Carolina Mudcats 5-2 at Five County Stadium on Thursday night.
Ingram's shot capped a two-out, none-on rally for the Barons (20-18), who spoiled Carolina's first home game in May.
The Mudcats (25-14) returned home after a 15-day, 6-6 road trip, and were unable to pad their one-game Eastern Division lead over Tennessee, who lost during the afternoon.
Chad Durham doubled in front of a Chip Ambres (0-4) dive in centerfield to score two runs in the second off of starter Ryan Snare (ND, 4IP, 5H, 2ER, 2W, 4K).
Chris Ashby (1-4, RBI) singled to right with two outs in the fourth to put Carolina on the board trailing 2-1. However after Ambres lined out to end the inning, a 1-hour, 38-minute rain delay ensued.
Following the delay, Wilson Valdez (1-3, 3B, RBI) tripled home the tying run in the seventh against Matt Smith.
In the eighth against McLeary (L 1-1, 4IP, 4H, 3ER, 1W), Juan Piniella chopped a double over Miguel Cabrera (0-4) at third, followed by an infield single from Ryan Hankins. Ingram drilled a 1-0 pitch from McLeary against the scoreboard in left field.
Carolina starts Aaron Small (1-0, 2.70) against Birmingham's Dennis Ulacia (1-4, 4.14) Friday night at 7:15 PM ET.
