Zebulon, N.C. - The Carolina Mudcats produced 18 hits on Friday night, but could not overcome a six-run sixth inning for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans in a 10-7 loss at TicketReturn.com Field. The Pelicans (38-28) won their 10th straight over the Mudcats, who fell to 21-46.

Francisco Mendoza (1-1) could not protect the lead in the sixth for Myrtle Beach, but picked up the win thanks to the rally. Mendoza allowed two runs on three hits in one inning.

Michael Peoples (0-2) allowed seven runs on five hits over five innings in the loss.

Trailing 5-4 in the swing frame, Rougned Odor tripled on a fly ball to right-center off Peoples. He scored easily on a double to center by Trever Adams. With the game tied 5-5, Peoples hit Joe Maloney on a two-strike pitch. J.D. Reichenbach replaced Peoples, but hit two straight batters to force in the go-ahead run.

Preston Beck followed with a bases-loaded single that scored two runs for an 8-5 lead. After a walk to Chris Grayson re-juiced the bags, Edwin Garcia singled home the fifth run of the frame. Odor came back to the plate, and was hit by a pitch to force in the sixth run.

Down 10-5, Carolina attempted a comeback. Tony Wolters cracked his second home run of the season on a shot out to right field in the eighth. Bo Greenwell singled home Tyler Naquin with two-out in the ninth, but the Mudcats drew no closer.

The Mudcats had three players record three hits, including Naquin, Joey Wendle and Wolters. Wolters, a former third round pick by the Cleveland Indians in 2010, paced Carolina's offense with the home run and three RBI. Greenwell drove in a pair on two hits.

The Mudcats stranded a season-high 16 runners on base.

The Mudcats continue their series in Myrtle Beach on Saturday night with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one against the Pelicans is set for 6:05 p.m. Both games will be seven innings with 30 minutes between. Carolina returns home on June 24th for a four-game series with the Frederick Keys. Tickets are available by calling (919) 269-2287 or visiting carolinamudcats.com.
