Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, Md. - For a team scuffling offensively, a pair of four-run innings will cure most maladies.

That proved true in the second game of Friday's doubleheader at Harry Grove Stadium, the Frederick Keys breaking out of an offensive slump to beat Potomac 9-4 in the final game of the night after being shutout 4-0 by the P-Nats in game one.

Entering game two, the Keys (34-33) had scored seven runs in their last five games, all losses, and had been held scoreless for 18 straight innings.

Michael Ohlman and Delvi Cid punctuated the Keys' offensive reawakening, launching home runs in the bottom of the eighth in front of 8,005 at Harry Grove Stadium. Ohlman led off the frame with a solo shot that just cleared the fence, putting the Keys up 6-4, and Cid followed with a long two-run blast. Jerome Pena's RBI double later in the inning set the final score.

Miguel Chalas (1-0) earned the victory in game two, pitching 2.1 innings in relief and allowing no runs. Hector Silvestre (0-1), making his first start of the season and his first above the rookie level, took the loss for Potomac (40-27).

Silvestre ran into trouble when, without recording a hit, Frederick scored four runs in the fourth inning. Two walks and an error by shortstop Jason Martinson loaded the bases, Jason Esposito walked to tie the game at 2-2, Cid walked to give the Keys the lead and another error by Martinson, this time on a soft grounder hit by Anthony Caronia, turned into two more Frederick runs.

Potomac then scored twice in the fifth, once on an error by third baseman Jason Esposito, who made several impressive plays during the game, and again on Francisco Soriano's RBI single to cut the Keys' lead to 5-4.

Nicky Delmonico got Frederick on the board in game two with a solo homer to right field in the first inning, his eleventh of the season. His blast ended an eighteen-inning scoreless streak for the Keys and briefly put them in front.

The P-Nats went ahead 2-1 in the second, Justin Miller slugging a two-run homer on an 0-2 pitch from Keys starter Trent Howard.

Howard came an out shy of qualifying for the win, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing four runs, two earned on four hits and a walk. Silvestre lasted 3.2 innings and allowed five runs, just one of which was earned.

Potomac starter Taylor Hill (5-3) dominated Frederick from start to finish in game one, throwing a seven-inning, complete-game two-hitter, walking one and striking out four. He allowed a leadoff single to Johnny Ruettiger, walked Allan de San Miguel in the second and gave up a single to Delmonico in the fourth.

He retired the final 11 batters he faced in order.

Keys starter Berry cruised through the first three innings, but struggled in the fourth.

Six consecutive P-Nats reached base in the fourth inning, a frame that saw Potomac score four runs. With one out, Jason Martinson and Adrian Nieto recorded back-to-back singles and Adrian Sanchez executed a squeeze play with Martinson at third, plating a run as Martinson slid in ahead of Allan de San Miguel's tag.

Randolph Oduber's bloop single scored another run, putting Potomac up 2-0, and following Cory Leonida's nine-pitch at-bat that ended in a walk, Mike Gilmartin drove home two more runs with a single to center.

Berry pitched six innings, allowed nine hits -- all singles -- four runs, walked one and struck out five. He took the loss, moving his record to 4-4.

Cid went 2-for-2 for 3 RBIs in game two and Delmonico was the only other Key to record two hits.

Frederick resumes its series with Potomac tomorrow at 6 p.m. For tickets, purchase online at FrederickKeys.com, call 301-815-9939 or visit the Keys' box office at Harry Grove Stadium.
