Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
MORE THIRD PERIOD MAGIC â On a Tuesday morning "Kid's Day" game at the Fort Worth Convention Center, the Mudbugs put together another impressive third period effort and defeated the first place Fort Worth Brahmas 3-1 in front of a crowd of 9,142. The win improved the Mudbugs' record to 11-7-3 overall and was the third straight game where they have scored three goals in the third period. Trailing 1-0 in the third, the Mudbugs tied the game when Matt Nicholson fired a one-timer past Brahmas goaltender Dan Murphy for his second goal of the year. Less than four minutes later, Brett Smith jammed a puck past Murphy to give the Mudbugs the lead and Forbes MacPherson added the insurance to give the Mudbugs the win.
FORT WORTH DOWN AGAIN â On Friday night, the Mudbugs defeated the Fort Worth Brahmas for the fourth time in five games this season, 4-2 in front of 4,749 fans at the CenturyTel Center. The Mudbugs took advantage of an early Fort Worth penalty as Jason Basile slapped a shot from the right circle past Brahmas goaltender Larry Sterling for a power play goal and a 1-0 Mudbugs lead. Ryan Manitowich then scored two goals, including one shorthanded, and the Mudbugs got an insurance goal from Chris Brassard with just 1:10 remaining in regulation. Ken Carroll earned the win for the Mudbugs by making 23 saves to improve to 4-0-0 against the Brahmas and 9-3-1 overall this season.
MEMPHIS DOMINATED â With four-point efforts from Brett Smith and Chris Brassard and 44 shots on goal, the Mudbugs smashed the Memphis RiverKings 8-2 on Saturday night in front of 5,205 fans at the CenturyTel Center. The victory gives the Mudbugs four wins in their last five games and improved their overall record to 13-7-3. Forbes MacPherson, Chris Brassard, Scott Sheppard, and Brett Smith scored in the first period to give the Mudbugs a 4-0 lead. In the second period, Memphis began with a two-man advantage and veteran Don Parsons capitalized for his 19th goal of the season and 1,000th point of his professional career (47th player in minor-pro hockey history). Parsons would score again on the power play, but the Mudbugs quickly peppered relief goaltender Daniel Boisclair and got goals from Brassard, Smith, MacPherson, and Jason Basile.
