2005 CHL All-Star Game Coaches Determined

December 20, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Laredo Bucks News Release

LAREDO, Texas – The coaches for the 2005 CHL All-Star Game this coming January 12th in Laredo have been determined. Colorado’s Chris Stewart will coach the Northern Conference while Lubbock’s Chris Dashney will lead the Southern Conference. For CHL All-Star Game tickets call (956)-718-BUCKS (2825) or log onto www.laredobucks.com and buy tickets online.

CHL All-Star Game coaches are determined based on winning percentage in each conference for games completed by December 19th.

Stewart of the Colorado Eagles has secured the coaching position for the Northern Conference All-Star team by posting a .714 winning percentage and leading his team to a 13-4-4 record. Along with Stewart the Eagles supporting operations crew of Tony Deynzer (Equipment Manager) and Chris Porowski (Athletic Trainer) will join the All-Star Game festivities in Laredo.

“I am honored to be selected as an All-Star coach, especially in a league that has so many good coaches,” Stewart said. “I am also excited for Lubbock’s Chris Dashney, who has done a great job in his first season, to get an opportunity to coach in the All-Star Game. We are going into a first class CHL city and I know Laredo will do a great hosting the All-Star Game.”

Stewart was the CHL Coach of the Year in 1998-99 with Hunstville and coached the Eastern Conference All-Star squad that season.

The Southern Conference head coaching position came down to a head to head battle last night and Dashney emerged with the honor courtesy of a 4-1 Lubbock win over Ray Edwards and the San Angelo Saints.

“It’s a little bit overwhelming,” Dashney said. “Being in a small market in west Texas and trying to plug away every night it is an honor to represent to the city of Lubbock and the Cotton Kings organization. My players have worked very hard for me and this coaching honor that reflects their efforts. For us to be where we are at this time in the Southern Conference is a very good achievement.”

Dashney, who is in his first season as a head coach, has the best wining percentage in the Southern Conference at .682 and has led Lubbock to a 14-6-2 record and a share of first place in the Southwest division. Cotton Kings supporting operations staff Rusty Aldridge (Equipment Manager) and Bobby Franco (Athletic Trainer) will accompany Dashney to Laredo.

All-Star Game head coaches, along with the CHLÂ’s Hockey Operations staff, will help select the non-starters for the Northern and Southern Conference squads.
