Jamestown Jammers News Release

JAMESTOWN - The Batavia Muckdogs rallied to beat the Jamestown Jammers, 12-8, at Diethrick Park Wednesday night at Russell E. Diethrick Jr. Park.

The Jammers (8-5) capitalized on a string of Batavia (5-8) errors for the second day in a row to take a 6-1 lead in the second inning; however, Batavia would strike for three in the fourth and four in the seventh and eighth to even the season series at two games apiece.

Brent Keys led the Jamestown attack with three hits, two runs scored and one RBI.

Marquise Cooper and Alfredo Lopez each had two singles with Lopez adding a run and a RBI.

Batavia took a one run lead in the first inning, but Jamestown would storm back with two runs in the bottom of the first.

Keys got the offense started with a single then he moved to second on a ground out. Austin Barnes plated him with a RBI single up the middle. Barnes went to second when Terrence Dayleg was hit by a pitch then scored on a fielding error by the third baseman Romulo Ruiz.

Jamestown would tack on four more runs in the bottom of the second. Nestor Castillo reached on a throwing error and moved to second on a single by Cooper. Keys grounded into a fielder's choice before Lopez picked up his first hit with a single to drive in another run. Another throwing error by third baseman Ruiz allowed Keys and Lopez to score, and Dayleg tacked on a RBI single to plate the Jamestown's fourth run.

The Jammers looked to be in cruise control, but Batavia would strike for three in the top of the fourth inning due to three walks, a hit by pitch, two wild pitches and two singles to cut the Jamestown advantage to two.

The score would remain the same until the top of the seventh inning when the Muckdogs would retake the lead.

Mike O'Neill walked and back-to-back singles brought Batavia within one. David Medina followed with a three-run homer to straight away center field with two outs to put Batavia up by two.

Juan Castillo would belt a leadoff homer in the eighth inning to extend the lead to three.

Four walks, a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly would account for the other three Batavia runs in the frame to put the game out of reach.

While the Jammers were down by six, the team briefly rallied in the eighth inning.

Viosergy Rosa roped a RBI double and scored on a Keys' single to cut the advantage to two. Lopez followed with his second hit to bring the tying run to the on-deck circle, but Barnes would pop out to end the threat.

Eric Binder earned the win on the bump for Batavia. He gave up one unearned run in 2.1 innings of relief work.

Offensively for the Muckdogs, Castillo had three hits including the home run and two RBI, and Medina delivered two hits with a home run and three RBI.

The two teams will be back in action Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. at Diethrick Park.
